Whitney Portal Hostel And Hotel
The Mount Whitney Portal Hostel and Hotel is a great place for people to stay. With bunk beds and new rooms, it's luxurious...for a hostel. It has a view of Mt. Whitney, but being in town, it allots for walking to restaurants and stores. There's a lobby area for others to gather and a small store if you've forgotten something, or need a souvenir. There are showers for hikers, if that's all you need too. A microwave, and a fridge are wonderful accommodations for those traveling on a budget as well.
Not only does the Whitney Portal Hostel offer private rooms and shared rooms, all with private showers and baths, the hostel also offers an area to do trainings and/or workshops.
The Whitney Portal Store, located 13 miles west of Lone Pine, lies next to the Mount Whitney trail head and has operated by permit from the Inyo National Forest since 1987. At the store, we try to keep last minute supplies for hiking, camping, fishing, and related items for the portal visitors. The kitchen serves pancakes and burgers. The kitchen closes when the store closes. Note: On quiet days, the store may close earlier.
